Our Support Team are a team of Union Team Members who make sure that things happen behind the scenes. Working to support our Student Engagement Team (who look after our range of student-led groups, student media channels and volunteers), our Information Team (who are our first point of contact for enquiries relating to the Students' Union) and our Lettings Team (who support a huge number of students who live in our amazing purpose built accommodation buildings in Stoke on Trent.) To be sucessful as part of one of these teams you'll be organised, a great telephone and email communicator and be strong with administrative tasks.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To make every customer interaction special and memorable, Going the Extra Mile with your positive attitude and by showing genuine interest in the happiness of your customers;
  • To deliver a friendly and knowledgable first point of contact at Union reception or the Union's Green Pad office to promote Union events & services, signpost enquiries, and carry out administration duties.
  • To manage customer complaints quickly and professionally, using support from your manager where necessary;
  • To support the overall vision of the Students’ Union by maximising  customer satisfaction, encouraging customers to come back for more and therefore raising essential charity funds;
  • To maintain the cleanliness, tidiness and general appearance of our Students’ Union spaces, ensuring that they are places that our customer want to enjoy and consider home;

A successful Union Team Member will be:

  • Able to show an understanding of the work of the Students’ Union
  • Excellent telephone manner and IT skills
  • Experienced in working in a customer service environment (This is advantageous but not essential)

Competitive Pay

£11.45 per hour for our Team Members, and holiday pay earned at 14.5% per hour worked.

Details of this Role

Hours: Zero-hours up to a maximum of 32 every two weeks.

Working Hours: Information Team members are required to work a variety of daytime, evening, late nights, and early morning shifts, over the seven-day week. 

Location: Union Reception and Green Pad Office (College Road Campus)

Wage: £11.45 per hour (plus Holiday Pay at 14.5% per hour)

Digital Interviews: 27, 28, 29 August 2024

Start date: Induction Training is on 10 September 2024 and training shifts start shortly afterwards. Please note we are legally required to check that you have the right to work in the UK before you take up employment. Further information about what this means is available here.

Special Requirements: This position requires postholders to work independently 

About Union Team Member Contracts

This is a Union Team Member role, which means that you are employed as part of the Staffordshire University Students' Union team and not employed exclusively by a single area of our organisation. This means that you will have a "home department", where you'll start your time with us and become amazingly skilled, but may also be invited to undertake training and work in other areas of the charity too.
